How to manage your time and reduce procrastination
Make starting easier, choose one task per session and leave a clear next step for tomorrow.

Make the first step small and concrete
When a task is vague, starting requires several decisions at once: which material to open, where to resume and how to tell whether you made progress. Before the session, write down an action you can take immediately.
Instead of “catch up on math,” try “open the exercise sheet and attempt the first equation question.” You do not have to clear the entire backlog to take that first step. If you are missing a concept, your new task becomes finding an explanation and an example.
Give your available time one task
Choose a block of time that fits your schedule. Twenty-five minutes of work followed by a five-minute break is one format you can try, not an ideal duration for every person or activity.
Before starting, gather what you need, silence notifications you can postpone and note your intended result. If another task comes to mind, put it on a list to consider later instead of automatically dropping what you started.
Notice the obstacle, not just the clock
When you finish, record what got in the way in one line. Was the task too large? Did the exercise rely on something you did not know? Was the time slot interrupted? Your answer points to a more useful change than repeating the same plan.
- If the task was too large, narrow it to one question or exercise.
- If you were missing background knowledge, set aside a session for it.
- If the time slot did not work, try another time or a shorter block.
- If you finished early, check your answer before adding more tasks.
Leave a cue for the next session
Before closing your materials, write down where you stopped and the first action to take next. For example: “Redo question 3 and check the sign on the second line.” This note saves you from reconstructing all the context the following day.
Use an Oren Space to bring the subject and your notes together. Start with a simple routine and adjust it after seeing how it fits your week.
